More Fuck Yeah Friday!: DJ Spiezio (Boston's Best DJ) - May 2011 Mix

DJ Spiezio brings us his May 2011 mix. Filled with great remixes, some bangers, and everything in between, this mix series continues to be among my favorites. Speez is a great dude and I wish him nothing but continued success!

Fuck Yeah Friday!: Scooter & Lavelle ft. Sue Cho - Beats Inside My Head (Donald Glaude Remix)

Tiesto's Club Life podcasts keep getting bigger and better, including a lot of bangers and the freshest tracks from the hottest producers in the game. It's basically like, if you want to hear the latest and greatest in EDM, listen to the most recent episode. When I was listening yesterday, this track stood and I couldn't wait to get home and listen to it on repeat. I've definitely heard it at Tiesto's shows in past weeks, but I never sat down and said, hey I need this. Well now you too can own it and love it.

Tribal Seeds - Warning

After two awesome electro shows the past two nights, I've been giving my ears a rest today by choosing Collie Buddz radio on Pandora. For those of you not familiar with Collie Buddz, he is an almost hybrid type of reggae. What I mean here is he fuses reggae rhythms and melodies with hip-hop lyrical flow and beats. One of the songs that came up was "Warning" by Tribal Seeds, featuring Sonny of the band P.O.D. The selling point was not Sonny, even though I have been a P.O.D. fan dating back to my early teens. The selling point, as with most songs I like, was the beat and the melodies. A bass-heavy track that you can kick back to and have yourself a moment, if you will. The YouTube video is below, I will try to post a download link soon.

Kid Kaio - Broadway

Well, I'm hanging on my a thread after seeing Wolfgang Gartner in Cambridge last night. As expected he tore it up, and the crowd (mostly 18 year olds) was through the roof. A pleasant surprise was Harvard Bass' set, full of tech-house beats, no crazy drops, but deep bass. This song "Broadway" was a standout track - I had first heard it last summer at Electric Zoo when Diplo played it. I thought it was lost forever, but it was revived last night. I believe the drum sample is from "Jammin'" by Bob Marley. Rusko tonight...need to figure out where I'll get the energy from.

Skipping Monday Throwback to Bring You Monday Funday in Honor of Wolfgang Gartner in Boston Tonight

Wolfgang Garner is in town tonight, at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA. I couldn't be more excited to see one of my current top 3 DJs/Producers at such a small venue. Yeah, it's a Monday night - so what? Life doesn't stop just because you have to be at work at 8:30 the next morning. Fully excited to fully enjoy some awesome Wolfgang madness. Here are a few tracks for you that are lesser-known but still make my speakers rattle:

Download "Montezuma" (Will Bailey & Mikey Hook Remix)

Download "Yin" Here

This mashup, by Madeon, is a mashup of Wolfgang's "Illmerica," "Undertaker," and "5th Symphony." To the average listener, this sounds like 1 song, but in actuality it's 3 mashed together in Wolfgang-esque form. Truly awesome work.

Fuck Yeah Friday!: Skrillex - Reptile's Theme (From Mortal Kombat 9 Sountrack)

It's been too long since I posted a Skrillex track, considering he's one of my favorite producer/DJs right now (and he's blown the FUCK up). According to Vacay Vitamins, Warner Brothers chose to go the electronic music route with the Mortal Kombat 9 official soundtrack, and their choice couldn't have been better. After listening to a handful of tracks, the obvious standout was Skrillex's production of Reptile's theme song (each character has its own theme song, produced by an EDM (that's Electronic Dance Music for those of you new to the show) artist for MK9).

Because its usually relevant, I will share an Ultra 2011 parallel: Skrillex dropped this track when he performed at the Live Stage, combining it with "Let Me Clear My Throat", which can be seen below. Mortal Kombat 9 is out now and don't hesitate to pick up the official soundtrack because you can't go wrong. Enjoy the fire and always come back to the G Spot for updates. Pump out some bass over the weekend!

Kaskade & Tiesto ft. Haley - Only You (Dragon & Jontron Remix)

Stumbled upon a video of Kaskade during his 2011 tour in Brazil. The sound track to the video, posted below, was really fucking good and the first track made me go and look to see what the deal was. A real tight remix by Dragon & Jontron of some legends in the game, Tiesto & Kaskade. Bass it up.

Kyau & Albert - Be There 4 U (Mat Zo Remix)

Heard this little gem on the most recent Trance Around the World with Above & Beyond (episode 368). Above & Beyond are in Boston at Royale tonight, playing a sold-out show. If I didn't have 3 shows in 4 days coming up, I would absolutely be there. Although I am not a huge trance fan, I love what Above & Beyond do and their Trance Around the World podcast is a great mix of sounds.

Mat Zo has been blowing up the trance world (from what I've read) and this track stood out to me when listening to episode 368. Check it homies.

Happy 420, Brah

Today's blog will combine some hump day hotness with a little "high holiday" 420ism. I'll be stuck in the office all day today, but that won't stop me from listening to reggae-esque music. Thanks to four years at UVM, this day as been ingrained in my head as a must-celebrate day and I can only look forward to that this evening. In the meantime, enjoy this "Welcome to Jamrock" Savoy remix, and also a little stoner comedy.

Dada Life April 2011 Mix

These guys have become one my favorite producer/DJ combos. Their original productions are awesome, their remixes are fire, and their DJ sets are the audio versions of a fucking party. These monthly mixes (available as Podcasts) have become a staple on my daily iPod listening. Check out the YouTube video of them at Ultra 2011. It was wild in that dome and I could barely get in the back beause it was so crowded.

Monday Throwback: Mf Grimm - Brand New

Mf Grimm is an underground rapper and producer who I discovered via Pandora internet radio. While he isn't a throwback artist in the sense that he's been making songs since the early 90s, but this track has a throw back feel. Off the album American Hunger, it was released in 2006. American Hunger is a THREE DISC effort. You can barely find albums that last an hour these days, nevermind one that spans multiple discs. Enjoy the track below.

Fuck Yeah Friday!: Green Velvet - Flash (Nicky Romero Remix)

Not exactly the most original selection of mine, but I had to post it as a great warm up for the weekend. This track was basically the theme song of Ultra 2011 - everyone from Tiesto to Carl Cox to David Guetta to Sander Van Doorn dropped it and each time the crowd went nuts. Tiesto even threw this in his set last week in Boston, and needless the say the place went off.

Do yourself a favor and have a stupid weekend.

Benny Benassi - House Music

Mostly just because I feel like it. I have a vivid memory of Benassi dropping this at Ultra. It was fun, it was wild, it was bass-heavy. See for yourself.

It's Hard, It's Wet, It's Loud: It's HumpDay. Sharooz - Hysteresis

This should pick you right up out of your rainy day misery. Upon first listen I thought this was a Michael Woods track. It has that driving bassline that most of his records have, but I knew there was something different about it.

Can't say I'd ever heard of Sharooz before but now he is 100% on my radar. Check out what he can do with a Roland 909 and 303 here

Enjoy the fire.

Monday Throwback: A Tribe Called Quest - What Really Goes On

A nice mellow jam for your groggy Monday. I was shuffling through some Tribe last night on my drive home and this one stuck out as a must-listen for everyone. I wasn't able to find a download link so I will try to do that later today when I get home. Enjoy.

TAI - Big Bass Drum

Over the weekend I realized I had some Dada Life downloaded that I hadn't really listened to. Among this was one of their monthly mixes that I had downloaded from Gotta Dance Dirty but is also available as a Podcast. So I began listening to it, loving every track I heard. One in particular was "Big Bass Drum" by TAI, who I was vaguely familiar with but didn't have much of his music. So here's what I learned, according to Last.FM:

Where do you head musically, once you have worked with acts as diverse as gangster rappers and nu disco bands in your home country of Germany? What do you do once you’ve produced them a string of top 10 hits and multi gold status albums?

You turn your skills to the upfront club sounds of ghetto-electro and ace the dance charts with a string of jaw-droppingly original cuts. Well you would if you are TAI and he’s currently on fire.

Well, sounds good to me.

Dave Grohl in FRESH POTS!

Over the weekend I was watching the Foo Fighters documentary on VH1/Palladia. It focused a lot on Dave Grohl and his transition from the drummer of Nirvana to the lead singer/song writer/guitarist of the hugely popular Foo Fighters. I'll admit that I really like the Foo Fighters, despite not owning much of their music. Dave Grohl, in my opinion, is a great songwriter and a very charismatic dude - I'd love the chance to grab some beers with him. I did some "Dave Grohl" searches online and came up with this video...I thought it was blog-worthy.

Afrojack is Just.... Doing It Right

Afrojack performing at the "Carl Cox and Friends" tent at Ultra Music Festival 2011

I know I'm a little late with this (for blog standards), but here is the most recent Afrojack song, in his personalized line of Dirty Dutch House music. This has a pretty distinct sound (you'll know what I'm talking about), but it isn't immediately recognizable as an Afrojack tune which I think is great...because let's be honest: no one likes the same shit on a different day. I may have originally overlooked "Doing it Right" but here you go for your listening pleasure.

Fuck Yeah Friday!: New Beastie Boys

Usually when I put together my "Fuck Yeah Friday!" segment, the song I select is some kind of electronic tune: a party jam to get your weekend started right. Well, it suffices to say I had to go back to my roots with today's choice.

Anyone who knows me well knows I am a huge Beastie Boys fan. In my heyday I could recite word-for-word the entire lyrics to "Paul Revere" because Licensed to Ill was one of the first three CDs I ever owned (keep in mind I said CDs - this must have been around 4th grade when I finally got a boombox equipped with a CD player, as opposed to my old school Playschool tape player). I still remember the first day I heard the song "Intergalactic" which, although it is considered newer Beasties, still takes be back to 4th grade when it was released. To this day I still play "Intergalactic" whenever I have a chance...I like my sugar with coffee and cream.

Thanks to my good friend Theo, I was informed that "Make Some Noise" was recently leaked. I am referring to this as the first single off The Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 regardless of whether or not it actually is. To my pleasure and surprise, local rock station WAAF played it today during its Hillman Morning show, which until recently was strictly talk radio (when they started playing music again it was mostly reserved for older songs by the likes of AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, and Pearl Jam). This was just my second time hearing it and let me say it got even better with a second listen, full blast in my car. It mixes newer-sounding instrumental Beasties (think back to 2007's all-instrumental The Mix Up) with old-school sounding lyrics (think back to "Fight for Your Right" off 1987's Licensed to ill).

You be the judge, but regardless I am highly anticipating May 3 when the album drops. Also, check out the trailer for the hilarious-looking Fight For Your Right - Revisited movie.

Just Discovered Some Hot Bass...Aaren San - Apes from Space (Dirtyloud Remix)

Wow. Pandora really coming through on this one. I thought it was Porter Robinson. I thought it was MAYBE Wolfgang Gartner, but then I realized there was no way because I've heard all of his tracks. This just fucking blew my mind. This is my favorite type of electronic music (that Vacay Vitamins is referring to as "Call and Response" - think Wolfgang, Porter, Skrillex, etc). Dirtyloud appears to be a producer/DJ from Brazil. Whoever he is, I hope he keeps the fire going with shit like this.

Tiesto Killed it Last Night

I'll admit, I had my doubts. I thought he was only going to play trancey shit and a lot of original Tiesto productions. But I knew this was going to be a special show when he opened with "C'Mon" (his awesome collaboration with Diplo). Like, who opens a show with that song? The show went on to include Tiesto fan favorites such as "Century" and "Escape Me." He even threw in the Steve Aoki remix of Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness" which made me go nuts. A lot of the stuff he played, however, was straight up deep bass and slammin house tracks...dirty dirty house.

I'll say that Tiesto's club shows definitely vary from his huge festival shows (ala Ultra 2011). Less of a light show, more of a crowd interaction, more bangers, etc. My ears are still ringing this morning but I know that if I have a chance to see him in a small venue again I will definitely do so.

I wish he played it last night, so download "Zero 76" Here

Monday Throwback: Jay-Z - Feelin It

The entire Reasonable Doubt CD is, hands down, one of the best hip hop CDs ever. Often overlooked when considering Jay-Z's best of his best, I always go back to RD when I need me some old school flavor. The beats are soulful, Jay's flow is as smooth as ever, and I'm always tempted to throw it on repeat. "Feelin' It" has a great piano line and catchy hook by Mecca, and according to Wikipedia this was the 4th and final single from the album.

Ryan Leslie Makes I Gets Money

With my fascination for music production and for watching the masters of beat making doing their thing in the studio, I was mesmerized by this vid of Ryan Leslie making "I Get Money." Easily the two highlights from the production are the fact that he takes a cup of spare change out of the closet and uses it as an instrument and also that he buys a bugle online, takes it out of the box, and throws it in the song immediately. This dude is solid solid solid. He has lots of other production videos online - check them out. Thanks to DJ Spiezio and Mike Mastrangelo for the viewing party.

Fuck Yeah Friday!: Laidback Luke & Steve Aoki ft. Lil' Jon - Turbulence

One of the highlights from Ultra 2011 was Laidback Luke's entire set. More specifically, it was when he dropped Turbulence, which is a new song he made with Steve Aoki featuring Lil' Jon. During this part of his set, Steve Aoki came on stage, jumped onto the DJ stand, and hyped the crowd up by screaming at us. It was insane, and so fucking awesome. Great song to get you pumped up for the weekend.
